TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL STUDY GROUP
IDEAL GROUP SIZE: 6 to 10 members
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A STUDY GROUP?
If you are interested in forming a study group, identify individuals who like to read and have undertaken some level of personal or professional development in the past. Group members should be motivated to heighten their skills as well as be open minded to new and different material. This study is not just about excelling or finding success (though that is the result), it’s also learning how to recover from inferior thoughts that may have got you stuck or are holding you back. A person that is motivated to grow must often release what no longer serves them. This individual is a good candidate for the Power Your Decisions study process.
CONSIDER A NAME FOR YOUR GROUP
After all, this study is meant to be a life changing experience for everyone! Claim your identity or purpose for getting together as a group. And when the power of the group comes together everyone is sure to elevate their own experience. This is your opportunity to not only make new friends but find common ground among old friends or colleagues. When everyone supports one another, a desire to have a fuller, richer experience is frequently met and often exceeded.
FIND A COMFORTABLE SETTING
Perhaps it is in someone’s home or a local library, church or community setting. Or find a place at work and treat it as a “lunch and learn series” where the convenience of everyone being together is an added plus during your work week.
ORDER YOUR MATERIALS IN ADVANCE
This group study will require everyone to order Power Your Decision Self-Study Workbook and the revolutionary classic, The Power of Decision; you can do this with ease on this website by clicking the link above. A group discount is also available for larger orders. Everyone should have both books in-hand before the initial group meeting. Ask members to do some preliminary reading as instructed in the workbook to get a feel for the material and the instructional process. Everyone will find all their study material is laid out in an orderly, step-by-step process.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE WEEKLY GROUP STUDY
Prior to each meeting, group members will be spending 2 to 3 hours per week reading from each book and completing their chapter exercises. Every participant will do personal assessments and apply new vocabulary to their daily lives. New ways will be found to recover from past decisions about love, health, relationships, career, and money. Each chapter becomes a catalyst for generating new ideas, better decisions and setting meaningful goals. The whole self-study process will encourage everyone to see their innate gifts and talents in a whole new light.
SHOULD THERE BE A GROUP LEADER?
Yes and no. A leader is needed primarily for organizing and structuring the group meetings. Perhaps two group members acting as a team can be responsible for organizing the dates, times and location for everyone’s convenience. While it is helpful to have a team member who feels they have a leg up on the topic, it is not essential any one member feel any pressure to lead the group. The workbook structures the whole study process for each participant every step of the way.
LENGTH OF STUDY
This can be customized by your group. It is recommended a group meet for not less than 1 hour per week for 8 weeks, however, 1 ½ hours may be more favorable to allow quality time for feedback and interaction. All members should listen fully to all sides of a discussion to get the most out of the group experience. It is recommended you coordinate 8 meeting dates and times, all arranged in advance, so everyone can truly devote time to their personal self-study and the group meetings.
CELEBRATE MEMBER SUCCESS ALONG THE WAY
After members commit to their study, don’t forget to have fun and celebrate along the way. Groups are encouraged to focus on the success of each member. Applaud them for taking a serious challenge to grow beyond their current comfort level and present circumstances. No worthwhile endeavor to inspire change should go unrewarded.
